About Vera
I'm a certified teacher, licensed pilot and mother of monozygotic twins.
A first-generation Canadian born (in Toronto) of German and Belgian immigrant parents, I took my first visit to PEI when I was 18 with my Omi. She wanted to come because she had learned in her English classes that PEI is the smallest province with the biggest potatoes. I wanted to come and discover the land of LM Montgomery: My Grade 6 teacher, on whom I had had a giant crush, had read us the story of Anne of Green Gables every day after recess, and I wanted to discover Anne's land for myself.

Many years later, when our twin boys were five years old, I arranged a family trip to PEI, and fell in love with the island all over again. We subsequently sold our Toronto house, moved into an apartment, and bought a summer home here on the Island! Over the past two decades, I've worked as an Educator in Ontario and here on Prince Edward Island. Now I am semi-retired (in addition to officiating weddings, I do a little substitute teaching for the public schools branch, freelance as a sessional instructor and curriculum consultant, conduct walking tours of Charlottetown for Experience PEI, and play trombone in three local bands). I divide my time between PEI and Ontario in Canada, and Guayabitos in Mexico.
In the summer of 2019, I spent three months living in a tent on the property I eventually developed into the Grumpy Professor site in St Peter's Harbour, where my partner and I had planned to get married in October 2022. (Plans changed as a result of Hurricane Fiona, and we ended up getting married on the roof of my friend's condo in Ch'town... but The Grumpy Professor property and nearby lighthouse beach is still a lovely space for a small, intimate wedding and/or a photo shoot.)

As a marriage commissioner on Prince Edward Island (MC-62), I am licensed by the government to perform civil wedding ceremonies and file your legal paperwork with Vital Statistics PEI. All you need is a marriage license from one of the provincial offices, a date, and a location, and I'll take care of the rest. Some couples also elect to work with a wedding planner (especially if a larger wedding is planned), in order to ensure everything runs smoothly. I'm happy to collaborate with whoever you have on your team!
Choosing someone to officiate your wedding is not a light task, and getting to know a stranger on demand can be a challenge. Past clients have described me as organized, responsive, patient and flexible, and feedback from the happy couples I have married so far is 4/4 for alignment of ceremony with vision and overall satisfaction with how the ceremony went.
I invite you to visit www.verateschow.ca and/or Ahzimuth Consulting or check out my social media on Instagram at @Schlagzeug_usw to get an impression of who I am. You are also welcome to reach out by phone or email for a free initial consultation, and to see whether we would be a good fit.
I look forward to hearing from you!
